Seeking Volunteers!
If you are thinking of being a volunteer for Street Pastors, now is a great time to start! Do you want to be in the front line of caring for people in vulnerable circumstances in the middle of the night in the city centre and living out your faith in a real and practical, non-judgemental, loving way?  If so ...

We need:

Prayer Pastors - on your own, in a couple, or in a group; no training required though recommended to attend Roles and Responsibilities and welcome to attend any other training on offer; in good enough health to be able to stay up from 10pm to 4am at our base about once a month, receiving up-dates from the teams and praying, and welcoming the Street Pastors back to base and helping with refreshments.

NightLite Volunteers - basic training 'on the job', recommended to attend Roles and Responsiblities and all other training on offer through the Street Pastor programme; in good health and physically able to help with running a cafe style refuge and assisting with the welcome and care of those who visit

Street Pastors - in good health and physically able to patrol from 10pm to 4am with breaks (it is possible to make adjustments according to circumstances, such as longer breaks or sessions spent in NightLite or praying) once a month; able to attend training events on Saturdays or weekday evenings

All of our volunteers need to be:
  • 18 or over (there is no upper age limit)
  • in good enough health to be able to stay awake till 4am once a month
  • Christians and regular attendees at a church (we will need a church leader's reference)
  • and able to be help everyone who is vulnerable in the night time economy without judgement.
  • We do not proactively share our faith but are always ready with an answer if asked
  • The roles are not exclusive: it is possible to be prayer pastor, NightLiter and Street Pastor on different nights, or it is equally possible to choose on of the roles.  It depends on what is right for you! Most people who are going to be Street Pastors start as prayer pastor and/or NightLite volunteer while they are accumulating training.
What do I do now?

Contact us on cambridge@streetpastors.org.uk or admin@cambridgestreetpastors.org.uk to ask for more information and to arrange an observation when you can come out on a Saturday night and try the 3 roles for either a whole night or part of the night.

over commissioningGarry was given a warm welcome by Over Baptist in October as he commissioned three new volunteers as Street Pastors.  The volunteers had completed the basic training including Roles and Responsibilites and mental health awareness.  There was a short commissioning ceremony including a time of prayer during the morning worship services, and the Street Pastors were awarded their caps.

Volunteers needed!

Has God been prompting you to do something different? Do you want to serve on one of the frontlines of His work in the City? Are you a regular church member, over 18 and able to stay up until 4am once a month?  Street Pastors and NightLite are looking for new volunteers and have a need for extra help in all three volunteer areas: Street Pastors on patrol; NightLite 'safe space' cafe, and Prayer Pastors at the base.

We care for, listen to and help anyone in need for whatever reason, without judgement.  We do not proactively share our faith but are always ready to give an answer when asked.  If this is for you, please contact Eileen at admin@cambridgestreetpastors.org.uk for more information or to arrange a night to come out and observe.  Alternatively, you can apply by filling in the form here

NightLite hosts its 1000th visitor!

Street Pastors NightLite has welcomed its 1000th visitor just 10 months after becoming a permanent fixture in the Cambridge city centre Saturday night scene. 1000 members of the public have been given refreshment and toilet use, a listening ear, a place to wait for others or reunite with friends, receive treatment or recover from a little too much of a good thing! (Because our volunteers are all church members we quite often get questions around spiritual matters too).
To all the volunteers who have made NightLite such a valued part of staying safe in the night time hours a big thankyou is well deserved. To our past and future guests please know that all are welcome in to NightLite.

NightLite launched on Saturday May 25th 2013 on a permanent basis!

NightLite is now a permanent Saturday night facility in Cambridge. Based at St Columba's Church on Downing Street NightLite offers a safe environment to rest, recover, meet up, find a listening ear, referrals or just a safe place to chat. Trained volunteers are available to assist in any practical ways they can.
If this sound like something you previously knew as Safe Refuge (see previous news items) then that's no surprise because we are the very same.

Cambridge Street Pastors win local Award

Cambridge  Street Pastors were happy to receive an Area Commanders Award from the Cambridgeshire Constabulary. The award recognised the valuable practical caring work done by Street Pastors. It also commends Cambridge Street Pastors for the support it gives to the Statutory Services in dealing so well with difficulties which may otherwise distract them from their core work.
