About Us
Working non-judgmentally in Cambridge City Centre to help people in need
Helping people on the streets
Street Pastors patrol most Saturday nights February to December from 10pm to 3am in and around the city centre, whatever the weather. The team of 3 or 4 are well known with their uniform and navy caps and luminous STREET PASTORS rucksacks.
Our aim is to keep an eye out and offer assistance to anyone in any kind of need without judgement. We keep in touch with door staff, police, paramedics and CCTV, by radio which links to the Street Pastors and NightLite in case people need them.
Our purpose is to be a reassuring presence on the streets and we know our calming presence has helped avoid many trips to A & E. But we do contact Emergency Services if necessary. We are there to help in any way we can and offer practical and non-judgmental caring, listening and help to anyone. As part of the national Street Pastor organisation we expect all our Street Pastor patrolling volunteers to be a Christian and belong to a Church (see below about volunteering in NightLite, safe space Night Cafe).
Helping people in our Safe Space - NightLite
We operate our NightLite 'safe space' in Downing Place United Reformed Church (4 Downing Place, Cambridge CB2 3EL) from 10pm to 3am most Saturday nights.
NightLite offers a place to wait, chat, recharge phones, receive assistance, sleep or just use the loo! All our NightLite volunteers are willing to help people who find themselves in a place or state they didn't expect to be on their night out.
If this sounds like something you could do once a month then look at our volunteer page. All we ask of our NightLite volunteers is they respect the beliefs and ethos of the Christian faith but it isn't necessary to be part of a Christian church community.
Prayer Pastors
Cambridge Street Pastors works best when supported by prayer and some dedicated Prayer Pastors "watch and pray" either at home on the phone or at our base, while we are on patrol or in NightLite. They pray for the team when we go out and when we get back, and between times - we keep in contact with them by mobile phone regularly.
Coordinator
Cambridge Street Pastors is managed day-to-day by our administrator, and supported by the trustees of the charity.
